Bad news for teenage fans of the Batman series who will want to purchase without parental approval. The game has been given a “Mature” rating. However, fans of the franchise hoping this means it will be a darker and more adult toned game should proceed with minimal expectations. The founder of Rocksteady, Sefton Hill, said the M rating was surprising because they did not intentionally push for it.
The previous Batman games, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, both had “Teen” ratings. You can read the full interview where Hill said, “We’re not including gratuitous blood or swearing.” But he did say that, “Warner Bros did a ratings analysis on Arkham Knight and pointed out key scenes that will cause ‘issues.'”
Regardless of the rating I’m excited for a new Batman video game, especially on next-gen. Hopefully it doesn’t follow the current trend of over-hyped and under-delivered, because they can definitely rely on brand loyalty as well as character fandom driving sales.
Batman: Arkham Knight comes to Xbox One, PS4 and PC on June 2, 2015.
